Thailand Tests TouristDigiPay: Crypto Payments Simplified for Travelers
Thailand has launched an 18-month pilot program called TouristDigiPay, allowing foreign tourists to convert cryptocurrencies into Thai baht for everyday transactions. The initiative, unveiled by Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, operates under strict regulatory oversight from the Ministry of Finance, SEC, AMLO, and Bank of Thailand.
The scheme modernizes tourism payments by letting visitors spend digital assets while ensuring vendors receive baht through traditional channels. Participants must comply with KYC requirements and spending limits through authorized digital asset providers.
This move positions Thailand at the forefront of crypto adoption in travel economies, blending technological innovation with rigorous financial compliance. The program's success could set a benchmark for other tourism-dependent markets exploring blockchain-based payment solutions.
